Meet the 2019 LLA Advancement & Events Intern, Ashley Huntington:

Name: Ashley Huntington
College: Hamilton College
Major/Minor: Women and Gender Studies/ Theatre & Government
Hometown: Tiffin, OH

How did you hear about Lakeside, or what is your Lakeside story? When my family and I moved to Tiffin ten years ago, people told us we needed to go to Lakeside. The next summer we came here, we stayed at Hotel Lakeside and immediately fell in love with this place.  A couple summers later we eventually bought a cottage here. It’s called “The Portkey” after our favorite Harry Potter stories.

What are you most looking forward to this summer at Lakeside? I am really looking forward to getting to know the people I am surrounded by: my supervisors, the other interns, staff, and the Lakeside community. I get to meet new people every day, and it always puts a smile on my face.

What do you hope to gain from this experience? From this experience, I hope to gain a better confidence in my own leadership and professional skills. This position requires a lot of logistic and organizational planning in addition to good communication. I wear a lot of “hats” working here, and I love how each one challenges me in new ways.

Name one goal you hope to achieve this summer. I hope to leave here with a better understanding of team work and success. Success may look different to everyone, but it cannot be achieved without the collaboration of everyone.

What are some of your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? I sing back at school in an acapella group as well as participate in theatre.

What is one of your proudest moments or major accomplishments you have achieved thus far in life? Last fall semester I helped create a workshop called “Woman to Woman” with Hamilton College’s Director of Opportunity Programs and Interim Director of Diversity and Inclusion Phyllis Breland. The workshops tried to start conversations and discussions about difference and connection amongst Hamilton students, faculty, and staff members in what it means to be a “woman.” It was a great success and I look forward to continuing this program in the fall.

What is your dream job? I would love to be an actor or a musician. Perhaps, be the next Taylor Swift?

Tell us a fun fact about you. I just came back from a semester abroad in Paris. So, I guess I can speak French. Je viens de rentrer d’un semestre à Paris. Donc, je peux parler français.
