During the morning at 2 a.m., the Carroll building, where Sloopy’s Sports Café is located, caught fire. The fire started in the basement of the building and damaged the subfloor and joists under the kitchen. A hole was cut in the floor so that firefighters could access the fire in the basement and extinguish it as quickly as possible. By 4 a.m., the fire department had the fire put out. The main issue is smoke damage and other tenants have been notified. Lakeside spoke with the insurance company and review will happen on Monday to determine repair costs.

Luckily, Lakeside security staff, Ron Lear, discovered the fire before it spread causing even more damage. Special thanks for his work at 2 a.m. in the morning. He notified the Danbury Township Fire Department immediately. Lakeside acknowledges and thanks the Danbury Township Fire Department for their quick response and action. Sloopy’s will temporarily shut down and will be serving the Marblehead area from their Port Clinton location. Sloopy’s Sports Café has posted a message on their Facebook Page.
