James MooreAs Minister in Residence at Highland Park United Methodist Church (UMC) in Dallas, Texas, the Rev. Dr. James Moore spends his time teaching, preaching and writing.

He will serve as Lakeside’s Preacher of the Week from July 3-8. This week is supported by Bob & Becky Brymer. 

At the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, July 3, the Rev. Dr. Moore will provide a message based on 1 Samuel 17:37-40. His sermon is titled “Can You Face Up to Your Personal Goliath?”

Now retired from a 22-year tenure as senior minister of St. Luke’s UMC in Houston, Texas, the Rev. Dr. Moore uses his talents at Highland Park UMC teaching seasonal bible studies, preaching on occasion and continuing his thriving writing career.

He has served pastorates in Milan, Milledgeville, Morris Chapel and Jackson, Tenn., as well as Lithopolis and Hopewell, Ohio.

As an award-winning author, he has written more than 50 titles, selling more than a million copies.

The Rev. Dr. Moore has been the recipient of numerous honors, including the J. Henry Bowden, Sr. Preaching Award; the John and Ruth Mount Alumni Award for Parish Ministry by The Methodist Theological School in Ohio; the Caring Spirit Award by The Houston Medical Center’s Institute of Religion; the R.E. Womack Achievement Award (Outstanding Alumnus) from Lambuth University; and a Sustaining Presence Award by Interfaith CarePartners.

He has written, directed and hosted weekly television and radio shows and has contributed articles for newspapers in Shreveport and Houston.

Additionally, the Rev. Dr. Moore has served as a member of the Board of Directors of The Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center, a member of the Board of Trustees of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, a member of the Executive Board at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, and a past member of the Houston Committee for Private Sector Initiatives.
