FullSizeRenderLakeside Chautauqua was referenced in the July/August 2014 issue of Home & Away magazine by Susan Hake, a Membership Operations Director with AAA Ohio Auto Club.

Hake graciously agreed to share her Lakeside story with us.

Hake has always known about Lakeside. Her brother-in-law’s family owns a cottage in the Chautauqua community.

She shared, “When we stay in the cottage, we have a great view of Perry Park and can watch the kids play from the front porch.”

Her sister also has a home in Marblehead, just outside the Lakeside grounds.

Hake’s first memory of spending time in Lakeside was when she was in junior high school. Her family came up for the Lutheran Chautauqua Week, held annually in Lakeside.

Her family rented a cottage near the business district. One of the youth groups participating in Lutheran Chautauqua Week “adopted” her, and she spent the majority of the week taking part in activities with their group.

Hake commented, “I made lasting friendships from that week. I was one of the lucky ones.”

Over the course of a calendar year, Hake visits Lakeside about four times, including Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July, Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving.

This past Memorial Day weekend, the family took advantage of being together and celebrated Hake’s sister’s birthday.

Her family traditions are recognized by many Lakesiders, including summer holidays, Sloopy’s pizza, Patio donuts and hanging out with family.

Like so many Lakesiders, the best takeaway from her time in Lakeside is the time spent with family and enjoying that time together.
